چکیده
The July 2020 Mw7.8 Alaska tsunamigenic earthquake was a fresh call for potential large tsunamis associated with the Aleutian subduction zone. second largest ever-recorded worldwide (Mw 9.2) occurred in this zone 1964 indicating its massive and tsunami risk. Our analysis of revealed that it involves very long period waves (51–64 min) which is unusual an earthquake. coastal amplitude small (~0.5 m) much smaller than usually expected from size. Here, through numerical simulations spectral analyses, we explain ultra-long tsunami. using analytical equation showed can be reproduced shallow water depth around source region (100–200 length coseismic deformation area (~100 km). By comparing event four other similar-size similar-mechanism earthquakes (thrust Mw7.8), attribute relatively to deep focal (28 km) extremely region.

The Alaska Earthquake of 1964: Radiation of Long-Period Surface Waves and Source Mechanism
The records of multiple Love and Rayleigh waves of the Alaska earthquake of 1964 were recovered from the 30-100 seismograph records at the WWSSN stations. The seismograms were equalized to a propagation distance of 9rr/2 (equivalent to G5 and R5 at • -r/2). These seismograms were compared with synthetic seismograms for radiation pattern and amplitude to estimate various source parameters. The s...

The 1946 Aleutian earthquake was a typical tsunami earthquake which generated abnormally larger tsunami than expected from its seismic waves. Previously, Johnson and Satake (1997) estimated the fault model of this earthquake using the tsunami waveforms observed at tide gauges. However, they did not model the second pulse of the tsunami at Honolulu although that was much larger than the first pu...

The great December 2004 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake was the first "giant" or "extreme" (moment magnitude Mw ≥ 9) earthquake recorded by broadband digital seismometers whose data were rapidly available to investigators worldwide. As a result, analysis of the earth’s longest period normal modes became a primary tool for studying the earthquake, rather than an elegant afterthought. The mode data pr...

U nderstanding and mitigating the effects of disasters requires the integration of research and practice in multiple science, engineering, technology, and social science fields to create a world that’s more resilient in terms of public safety, economic strength, and collective welfare. The January/February 2011 issue of CiSE explored hurricane prediction.1 Hurricanes are one of many natural dis...
